Welcome to our IPSEA short course: 'Exclusion from school'

The course content will take around 40 minutes to work through, and includes videos, interactive quizzes and downloadable resources. It's important to complete all sections to ensure you get the most out of this course.

The learning outcomes for this course are:

  • To understand the duties of schools and local authorities in relation to exclusions
  • To understand the duties of schools and local authorities in relation to arranging education for pupils who are excluded​
  • To understand the power of a school to direct pupils off-site to improve their behaviour​
  • To learn more about what happens after a pupil is excluded – including how to ensure their SEN are properly understood and supported​
  • To know where to find the rules relating to exclusion in other settings e.g. independent schools

Covers very recently updated statutory guidance, making this an essential first or refresher course. Excellent content

This course is very important as it explains that when a child is excluded, the EHC plan of that still holds and can also be reviewed to get a new placement for the child. Also unlawful exclusion can be challenged and how to go about that.
