Welcome to our IPSEA short course: 'Ceasing to maintain an EHC plan'

The aim of this course is to set out some of the key information about cease to maintain decisions made by local authorities regarding Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans. This is when a local authority decides to take away a child or young person’s EHC plan. This course will provide background for those who are unfamiliar with this area of law or refresh and cement your understanding if you are familiar with it.
The learning outcomes for this course are:
- To understand some of the duties of local authorities in relation to cease to maintain decisions and what happens if a parent, carer or young person chooses to appeal this decision
- To understand the legal process local authorities must follow when deciding to cease to maintain an EHC plan and the limited times that a local authority can lawfully make this decision
- To understand a parent, carer or young person’s rights when the local authority makes the decision to cease to maintain a plan
