Welcome to our IPSEA short course: 'Understanding transport from home to an early years setting, school or college'
The course content will take around 40 minutes to work through, and includes videos, interactive quizzes and downloadable resources. It's important to complete all sections to ensure you get the most out of this course.
The aim of this course is to set out some of the key information about the law on this topic. If you are unfamiliar with this area of law, this course will provide you with a helpful overview. If this topic is not new to you, this course is intended to be a refresher to help cement your understanding.
Aims and objectives
After this course you will be able to:

Understand what the law says about home to school/college transport entitlements and when a local authority must make travel arrangements

Advise parents and young people about this so they can make an informed choice whether to make an application for transport or challenge their local authority’s decision about or refusal to provide transport
Content
To enable you to do this, we will cover:

The legal framework for home to school/college transport

When a child of statutory school age is classed as an “eligible child” for the purposes of home to school travel arrangements

Exceptions to transport entitlements

The position for children with EHC plans
-
How the law differs for under compulsory school age children and the framework which applies to those over compulsory school age, including “adult learners”
We will also look at:

how to make an application for transport arrangements and
-
challenging decisions in relation to transport.
